Gulf Coastal Conditions Overview
Florida's Gulf Coast continues enjoying one of its best stretches of summer beach weather. From Pensacola Beach and 30A through Marco Island, beach conditions remain favorable with warm Gulf waters, light morning winds, and only the usual chance of scattered afternoon thunderstorms.
As we've seen throughout much of early August, environmental conditions continue taking a back seat to typical summer weather. For most families, the biggest decision today is simply which beach to visit.
Red Tide Update
Gulf Coast
Florida's latest statewide monitoring continues to show excellent overall red tide conditions.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's latest report indicates:
Background concentrations of Karenia brevis remain limited to a handful of Gulf Coast samples.
No fish kills related to red tide have been reported.
No respiratory irritation associated with red tide has been reported along Florida's Gulf Coast.
Red tide continues to remain at background levels in monitored Gulf Coast areas.

continue offering favorable vacation conditions.

Red tide continues to have little to no impact on Florida Gulf Coast beach vacations. Current monitoring does not indicate conditions that should alter travel plans for most visitors.
Sargassum (Seaweed) Update
Gulf Coast Outlook
Seaweed activity remains relatively light across most Florida Gulf Coast beaches. While isolated patches may arrive because of changing winds and currents, widespread accumulations are not expected today.
East Coast, Caribbean & Florida Keys
Higher concentrations continue across portions of the Caribbean and Atlantic. Visitors traveling to the Florida Keys may encounter localized seaweed depending on daily wind patterns.
Health Considerations
Large accumulations of decomposing seaweed can occasionally produce unpleasant odors and temporary respiratory irritation for sensitive individuals.

Seaweed remains a relatively minor factor for most Florida Gulf Coast vacation plans today.
Water Quality & Bacteria (Vibrio) Update
Water quality remains generally favorable throughout much of Florida's Gulf Coast.
Warm Gulf water temperatures continue supporting naturally occurring Vibrio bacteria, which remain a normal seasonal consideration during August.
Family Takeaway
Swimming, boating, paddleboarding, fishing, and shelling remain appropriate where beaches are open. Continue using normal summer precautions by avoiding Gulf water with open cuts or wounds and rinsing off after swimming.
Tropical Outlook
The Atlantic remains active enough to keep forecasters watching several tropical waves, but Florida's Gulf Coast continues benefiting from a quiet tropical pattern.
One thing worth remembering this time of year:
Not every tropical wave becomes a tropical storm, and not every tropical storm affects Florida.
